Cashman: Yanks interested in bringing back Happ, Sabathia

CC Sabathia has been a member of the Yankees since 2009, and J.A. Happ didn’t arrive in the Bronx until late July, but New York general manager Brian Cashman says he’s interested in having both veteran pitchers back next season. As Major League Baseball’s general managers meetings began Monday in Carlsbad, Calif., Cashman said he has been in touch with representatives for both left-handers.The Yankees will be looking to bolster their starting rotation, which will return right-handers Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka, who combined to win 31 games last season.Whether it means the trade market or signing free agents, Cashman said the Yankees would “gravitate to anything that will make sense. It could be a combination; something could make sense via trade in the same category as free agency.”
